Purpose:

The Radiology Workflow Specialist Tier 1 is responsible for coordinating and optimizing the daily workflow of radiologists to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely interpretation of diagnostic imaging studies. This position performs a wide range of operational and clinical support activities that enhance radiologist productivity, facilitate communication between radiologists and referring providers, and maintain continuity of imaging services. The Radiology Workflow Specialist also provides backup support for the Clinical Information Technology (Clinical IT) department and participates in after-hours clinical support coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor radiology workflow to maximize operational efficiency and support timely image interpretation.
  • Prioritize imaging studies based on clinical urgency, service level agreements, and departmental protocols.
  • Serve as the primary workflow liaison between radiologists, technologists, clinical staff, and referring providers.
  • Assist radiologists by managing worklists, monitoring case assignments, and addressing workflow interruptions.
  • Communicate urgent, critical, and unexpected imaging findings from radiologists to referring providers in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Document all critical result communications accurately and maintain appropriate records for compliance purposes.
  • Troubleshoot workflow issues affecting image interpretation and collaborate with internal departments to resolve operational concerns.
  • Provide backup support for the Clinical IT department, including assisting users with imaging applications, workflow systems, PACS, RIS, and related clinical technologies.
  • Escalate system issues and coordinate with Clinical IT staff and vendors to minimize service interruptions.
  • Participate in the Clinical Support team's rotating after-hours, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and patient care.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental policies, HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow optimization projects.
  • Maintain effective communication with physicians, hospital personnel, clients, and internal team members to ensure exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree in healthcare, radiologic sciences, health information management, information technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience in radiology operations, imaging workflow, PACS administration, Clinical IT support, or a related healthcare environment preferred.
  • Experience with teleradiology or multi-site imaging operations is desirable.
  • Experience communicating critical imaging results is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of radiology workflow, diagnostic imaging procedures, and healthcare operations.
  • Familiarity with PACS, RIS, EMR/EHR systems, and medical imaging software.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and radiology-specific terminology.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and healthcare information systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation.
  • Frequent use of computers, telephones, and multiple software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone and electronic communication.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based healthcare environment with frequent interaction with physicians, clinical staff, and healthcare facilities.
  • May require evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities as part of the Clinical Support team's after-hours rotation.
  • Position requires the ability to respond promptly to urgent operational and clinical communication needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
