By bridging design, testing, and assurance, this position plays a critical role in safeguarding overall mission success.

Position Overview

The Space Radiation Engineer provides technical oversight of designs, components, and test programs to ensure missions reliability in radiation environments. This role assesses risk, reviews parts and systems, and works with engineering teams to validate that mission assurance requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review designs and parts for compliance with relevant mission requirements..
  • Evaluate radiation risks and mitigation strategies at the component-, assembly-, and system-level.
  • Support planning and execution of test programs, ensuring results align with mission requirements.
  • Collaborate with hardware, test, and radiation engineers to validate design decisions.
  • Contribute to documentation, risk assessments, and assurance reporting and other customer-facing content.
  • Provide recommendations to improve reliability across engineering projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Strong foundation in reliability engineering, risk assessment, and statistics.
  • Familiarity with radiation effects on electronic systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience with standard environment modeling tools such as OMERE, CREME, SIRE, FASTRAD, or NOVICE.
  • Experience with one or more high-level programming languages.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in mission assurance, reliability, or systems engineering within commercial aerospace or defense.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD, NASA, or similar mission assurance frameworks.
  • Background in radiation effects testing or component qualification.
  • Experience with reviewing engineering designs, test data, program requirements, requirements decomposition.

Additional Requirements

  • This is an on-site role for the greater Seattle metropolitan area.
  • May be required to travel occasionally to support test activities.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000 (L2). Final compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Export Control Regulations

This position requires access to export-controlled information and technology. Candidates must be eligible to access such information in accordance with applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations, including ITAR and EAR. Eligibility may include qualification as a U.S. person under applicable export control regulations or other authorization permitting access to the information and technology required for this position.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
