🧭 Role Overview

As an Accounting Manager, you will serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of nonprofit clients while also leading and developing a team of accountants.

This role blends technical accounting expertise, client relationship management, and people leadership. You’ll be responsible for ensuring high‑quality client delivery while coaching, training, and supporting your team to do their best work.

✅ Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Relationship Management

• Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned clients.
• Lead client communication, meetings, and ongoing financial discussions.
• Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for clients.
• Proactively identify scope changes, risks, and opportunities for additional support.
• Partner with firm leadership on client retention and growth.

Team Leadership & Development

• Manage, mentor, and support a team of accountants.
• Review team work for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
• Train team members on best practices, processes, and client‑specific nuances.
• Provide regular feedback, coaching, and guidance to support professional growth.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration.

Accounting & Technical Oversight

• Oversee transaction recording and bank reconciliations.
• Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes (cash and accrual).
• Review and approve class and restricted fund allocations.
• Oversee audit support, budgeting, and cash flow analysis.
• Guide historical cleanups and critical variance analysis.
• Ensure consistency and quality across all client deliverables.

🎓 Requirements

We are specifically looking for candidates who meet one of the following two background profiles:

✅ Path 1: Public Accounting → Controller

• Public accounting experience (audit experience strongly preferred), and
• Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent senior in‑house accounting role
• Strong ownership of close processes, financial reporting, and internal controls
• Experience partnering with leadership, boards, and external stakeholders

OR

✅ Path 2: Client Accounting Services (CAS)

• Experience in Client Accounting Services / outsourced accounting
• Experience in a manager‑level role, including:
• Managing ongoing client relationships
• Reviewing team work
• Leading, training, and developing accountants
• Ownership of multiple client engagements simultaneously

Additional Core Requirements (All Candidates)

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft 365
• Comfort serving as the primary point of contact for clients
• Excellent communication skills, especially translating financials for non‑financial audiences
• Strong leadership presence rooted in empathy, clarity, and accountability
• Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
• Private, dedicated workspace suitable for focused, uninterrupted remote work
• Commitment to overcommunication and strong internal collaboration

👍 Preferred (But Not Required)

• Nonprofit accounting experience
• Experience supporting audits, restricted funds, and class‑based accounting
• Interest in process improvement and leveraging technology to work smarter

💼 Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $90,000 – $125,000 (depending on experience)
