Plumbing and Piping Estimator

Summary:
We’ve partnered with a longstanding mechanical contracting firm to hire a Plumbing and Piping Estimator. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical systems knowledge who enjoys analytical work, collaboration, and contributing to winning project bids. This position is onsite in Madison, WI. Responsibilities:

• Review project plans, specifications, and addenda to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates
• Complete quantity takeoffs for piping, fixtures, equipment, and accessories
• Build and maintain pricing relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
• Prepare detailed bid proposals and cost breakdowns
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to align scope and resolve discrepancies
• Support value engineering efforts and identify cost-saving opportunities
• Monitor material costs, labor trends, and market conditions to maintain competitive pricing
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and job walks to gather project insights
• Maintain historical cost databases to support future estimating accuracy

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED; degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field strongly preferred
• 3 years of estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction
• Strong plumbing/piping knowledge
• Experience with BIM coordination or 3D modeling preferred
• Knowledge of LEED or sustainable plumbing practices preferred
• Hands-on mechanical or construction field experience preferred
• Proficiency with estimating tools (Trimble, Bluebeam, FastPIPE, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
