Position Summary

 Under the direction of the BosqueManager, supervises work force for Bosque Restoration and fuels reduction projects. Duties include daily safety and project briefings, reporting, equipment maintenance, equipment inventory, purchasing, and overall management of the field crew.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides field supervision of labor crew including assessing performance and recommending disciplinary action.
  2. Maintains field equipment, including inventory, maintenance, and inspections.
  3. Operates, maintains, and repairs associated hand and/or power tools and heavy equipment including chainsaws, sprayers, backhoe, dump truck, water truck, chipper, etc.
  4. Completes safety training, herbicide application training, and chainsaw safety and operations training.
  5. Oversees purchasing of field supplies and safety equipment.
  6. Establishes procedures for checking out field equipment.
  7. Prepares daily work reports on specific projects; communicates with the Bosque Program Manager about the progress of projects.
  8. Prepares written reports and coordinates with BIA Forestry Division about progress of projects.
  9. Coordinates and communicates with homeowners, consultants, and other agencies that may be affected by projects.
  10. Performs duties as part of the work crew including chainsaw operations; removal of invasive plants; application of herbicides; tree planting and re-vegetation
  11. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned schedule each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo of Sandia. 

 Additional Responsibilities

  1. Provides immediate supervision to front line Team Members.
  2. Sets business parameters and delegates day-to-day tasks to achieve operational objectives. 
  3. Provides guidance, training, counseling, recognition, and ongoing feedback, primarily to non-exempt staff members. 
  4. Delegates and assigns duties to the reporting staff in a clear and concise manner and set expectations for performance excellence.
  5. May support management in the completion of administrative responsibilities. 
  6. Maintains a positive attitude and outlook and encourages the team to gain support and create a positive morale.
  7. Creates an environment of teamwork, by communicating common goals, and showing appreciation for Team Members contributions and on-going support.
  8. Demonstrates relevant experience in the industry or field, often including previous roles in leadership or supervisory positions.

 

 Key Performance Indicators

This position has Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) identified as a measurement of success.  KPI’s will be shared with all team members who work in this job title and feedback will be provided regarding the successful completion of the KPI’s as part of the performance review process.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to work under supervision and ability to supervise and direct work to others.
  2. Ability to operate and maintain light and heavy equipment.
  3. Ability to use and maintain hand and power tools.
  4. Ability to prepare and submit standard reports.
  5. Knowledge of safety rules, requirements, procedures, and equipment.
  6.   Knowledge of herbicidal compounds and potential effects when mixed or used
Qualifications:

   Education and Experience 

Required

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent
  2. Two (2) years prior supervisory experience; or, two years’ experience on the Sandia Pueblo Bosque Crew.

 

Preferred:

  1. Associate’s degree in forestry or a related field of study and two (2) years of forest restoration experience.
  2. Heavy equipment operation experience.

 

Note:  Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy education and/or work experience.

License/Certifications/Registrations

  1. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
  2. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
  3. Ability to obtain and maintain any other licenses and/or certifications as determined by management.
  4. Must successfully complete other training within 30 days to six (6) months of hire date such as: CPR, First Aid, Confined Spaces, and health and safety training.
  5. Must be insurable by the Pueblo’s insurance carrier for driving privileges.
  6. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.

Description

Balancing

Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

Climbing

Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

Crawling

Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.

Crouching

Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Feeling

Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Finger Dexterity

 

Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Grasping

Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Hearing

Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

Kneeling

Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Lifting

Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.

Pulling

Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Pushing

Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Reaching

Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Seeing

The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.

Walking

Job requirements include, in the performance of duties, walking throughout the work area, on various work surfaces throughout internal or external locations.

Sitting

Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Standing

Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Stooping

Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Talking

Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Working Conditions Required:

  1. Duties are performed outdoors and subject to seasonal extremes and   inclement weather.
  2. Work will be associated with high noise levels emanating from power equipment.
  3. Subject to hazards such as infections, diseases, fumes, odors, dust, and gasses.
  4. Subject to hazards such as heights, motorized equipment, and hand tools.
  5. Duties will involve work on even, uneven, rocky, flat, slopped, and/or hard surfaces.
  6. Duties will involve walking, standing, crouching, and kneeling.
  7. Specific requirements include the following: (80 lbs. Maximum)

  9. Arms-reach, carry, push, pull, lift, twist, and rotate
  10. Legs-lift, push, pull, twist, rotate, and balance

Salary : $64,542 - $80,662
