Seasonal Assistant Production Manager
Available Immediately- December 1, 2026
As the Assistant Production Manager, you will work with the Production Management team to support and lead production activity at the theater. Duties include leading projects as assigned, assisting Production Managers on individual projects, and other ongoing responsibilities to support production management. You will report to the Director of Production and work closely with the other members of the Production Management team.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Production Manager on productions, working with creative, producing, and production staff to realize the production within the agreed budget parameters and available resources.
- Manage production processes for projects, outside of Public produced mainstage productions. Partner with production and design teams to arrive at artistic execution that align with project budgets, available resources, and organization values. Maintain budget projections for these projects
- Facilitate the flow of information and alignment of activity among production departments, and between production staff, design teams, directors, stage managers, and departments across The Public for assigned projects.
- Schedule, coordinate, and lead, or assist with leading, production meetings. When the lead on a project, facilitate communication, prioritization, and scheduling of production work. When assisting on productions, record and distribute meeting notes, general filing, and organization.
- Provide continued production support and maintenance throughout an assigned project’s run.
- Collaborate with and assist other Production Management staff as necessary.
- Collaborate interdepartmentally to understand, question, and transform work systems, structures, and practices to reflect anti-racist values.
- Collaborate with fellow Production Management staff to continually improve the capacity of the department and the quality of our work and workplace.
- Actively support The Public’s commitments to safety, diversity, and respect in the workplace.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of professional production experience, or equivalent training in theatrical production or stage management.
- Understanding of The Public Theater’s mission, strategies, and programming, including a commitment to cultural transformation and antiracism in the work and workplace.
- Ability to respond to changing circumstances quickly and with a positive attitude.
- Ability to align stakeholders toward common goals while negotiating competing priorities.
- Analytical thinking and problem solving.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Ability to read and interpret CAD working drawings.
- Ability to work extended, evening and weekend hours as typically required during tech/previews for assigned projects
Compensation
The rate for this position is $30/hour, with overtime at $45/hour. This is an non-Exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Position is available immediately.

SALARY
$30.00 – $30.00 per hour
