Summary
Provides excellent customer service by assisting library customers with their library accounts, their material and basic library equipment questions, and overall answering or directing customer inquiries. Under the direction of a Supervisor and/or Public Service Lead or Specialist, performs a variety of duties that relate to the overall circulation and maintenance of library materials. Fulfills basic clerical and operational duties as assigned. Supports library services to library users unable to visit the physical library buildings. Responsible for assisting with the Pop-Up Library and community engagement events. This position acts as a circulation clerk for in the community and performs a variety of duties associated with the circulation of library materials to library users.
- Provides excellent customer service and acts as the first “face” of the library by assisting library customers with questions, transactions and library collections. Utilizes a variety of methods to provide this assistance, including (but not limited to) phone, electronic methods, and face to face interactions. Resolves customer concerns and issues and refers these issues to the supervisor or other staff members when needed. Uses appropriate library technology and demonstrates use of equipment and technology to customers. Uses good judgment when interacting with customers and other staff members. Understands and adheres to Library policies. Facilitates library usage by customers and creates a warm and welcoming environment.
- Responsible for the maintenance of materials and library collections, as well as facilitating the flow of library materials throughout the system. Duties that relate to material maintenance may include but are not limited to checking materials in and out of the system, shelving materials, providing inventory control of materials (discarding, checking for damage and noting condition, confirming receipt of periodicals, etc.), fulfilling holds, renewing items, maintaining periodical collections, mending or cleaning materials and straightening or organizing shelves. Duties may vary according to location, outreach service and Pop-Up event.
- Performs clerical duties in support of library operations, procedures and support of library outreach and Pop-Up events.
- Understands library technology or systems required to perform job duties. Follows standard routines for opening and closing and securing the Library, department, or event. Effectively executes daily/weekly/monthly work list of duties.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
- Serves as Pop Up driver as assigned.
- Acts as a circulation clerk for community engagement events and performs a variety of duties associated with the circulation of library materials to library users including but not limited to, checking out material, checking-in material, placing and filling holds, handling renewal requests, and processing borrower registration forms.
- Compiles statistical reports by collecting, collating and tabulating data. May assist with library surveys or other types of information gathering.

Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Majority of work is performed in a general office / library environment.
- Able to reach, bend, climb, squat, lift 25lbs, push up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time.
- Excellent customer service skills, energetic, a positive attitude, and a love of interacting with the public.
- Ability to learn, understand, and apply library policy while using good situational judgment.
- Ability to work as part of a team under the direction of a supervisor.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn library specific operating systems.
- Ability to learn, understand, and demonstrate library technology. PLYMC Job Description

Work Schedule
- Must be willing to work days, evenings, and Saturdays (rotating shifts).
- Must be willing to work at the various locations throughout our Mahoning County system.
- Full-time hours are generally 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are generally 24 hours per week, with the option to work additional hours possible.
- Travel to other library branches required occasionally.
- Availability for extended or non-traditional hours as needed to perform job duties. Participation and attendance at promotional events and off-site meetings may be required at managements discretion.
