Purpose of Position
We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our hospitality organization. This role assists in managing daily accounting activities, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for hotel/restaurant operations. The ideal candidate has strong accounting knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry, including revenue management, cost control, and multi-department financial reporting.
Position Overview
The Assistant Controller supports the financial management and accounting operations of a hospitality organization, assisting the Controller with daily accounting functions, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role helps ensure accurate tracking of revenue streams such as rooms, food and beverage, and events while supporting month-end and year-end close processes, budgeting, and financial planning. The position also works closely with department managers to monitor expenses, maintain compliance with GAAP, and support audits and system improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in hospitality accounting and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Finance and Operations in overseeing daily accounting operations.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Monitor revenue streams including rooms, food & beverage, events, and other hospitality services.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
- Coordinate with department managers on cost control and expense management.
- Support audits and tax preparation.
- Help implement and maintain accounting systems and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–6 years of accounting experience, preferably in hospitality (hotel, resort, restaurant, or entertainment).
- Knowledge of hospitality accounting systems (e.g., StaynTouch, Toast, QuickBooks, M3, or similar).
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Detail-oriented professional with strong multitasking and organizational skills, capable of independently managing complex financial responsibilities and meeting tight deadlines in a high-pressure, unsupervised environment
Preferred Experience
- Experience with hotel or restaurant revenue reporting
- Knowledge of inventory and cost control for food & beverage
- Experience with multi-location hospitality operations
