A Flexible RBT Role That Goes Beyond Table Work

The Progress Lab is looking for a dependable, adaptable Float RBT who can provide high-quality coverage across multiple client teams.

If your idea of ABA is sitting at a table running flashcards for an entire session, The Progress Lab is going to feel different.

We believe meaningful skills should be taught where life actually happens. Our team uses Natural Environment Teaching, community involvement, movement, play and social experiences to help neurodivergent clients build skills they can use in their everyday lives.

Depending on the client, your session might include:

• Playing basketball or going for a walk
• Practicing ordering at a restaurant
• Completing a workout or wellness activity
• Playing games that build communication and flexibility
• Visiting a store and practicing money or shopping skills
• Participating in a structured social-skills activity
• Exploring hobbies and age-appropriate leisure activities
• Practicing self-advocacy, independence and real-world problem-solving

The activities are fun, but they are also intentional, individualized and clinically meaningful. Wellness and recreational activities are incorporated only when clinically appropriate and included in the client’s treatment plan.

What Is a Float RBT?

Float RBTs provide temporary and supplemental coverage across The Progress Lab’s client teams. This may include:

• Covering planned employee absences
• Providing coverage when a regular technician calls out
• Supporting new client starts
• Filling temporary gaps while a permanent technician is being hired or credentialed
• Assisting with social-skills programs and community activities
• Providing additional support during schedule changes or transitions
• Transitioning into a permanent client assignment when an appropriate opportunity becomes available

This is a variable-hours position rather than a fixed weekly caseload. Weekly hours will depend on client needs, employee absences, new client starts and the availability you provide.

Float RBTs are not required to remain on call. You will provide your availability in advance and will only be expected to work assignments you have accepted or that have been scheduled within your established availability.

You will receive client-specific training before covering a case. Being a float does not mean entering an unfamiliar session without preparation or clinical support.

Who We Serve

The Progress Lab primarily supports school-aged children and teens, with a particular focus on middle and high school clients. We address communication, social skills, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, independence, daily living and meaningful community participation.

Our services are relationship-based, assent-centered and respectful of neurodivergent people. We emphasize prevention, proactive support and de-escalation rather than physical-management procedures.

What You’ll Do

As a Float RBT, you will:

• Provide individualized ABA services in clients’ homes and community settings
• Implement treatment programs designed and supervised by a BCBA
• Learn and follow multiple clients’ treatment protocols with fidelity
• Review client-specific materials before accepting coverage assignments
• Use Natural Environment Teaching to make learning functional and engaging
• Adapt to different client interests, communication styles and support needs
• Plan age-appropriate activities consistent with each client’s goals
• Support communication, social interaction, independence and self-advocacy
• Collect accurate data and complete timely electronic session documentation
• Follow individualized behavior-support and safety procedures
• Communicate promptly with the supervising BCBA regarding clinical or scheduling concerns
• Respect client assent, dignity, preferences and individual differences
• Participate in ongoing training, feedback and professional development

Health and Wellness Experience Is a Bonus

We especially encourage applicants with experience or education in:

• Personal training or group fitness
• Sports coaching
• Health and wellness
• Physical or recreational activity programs
• Kinesiology or exercise science
• Recreation or community programming
• Physical therapy or occupational therapy support
• Special education, psychology or social services
• Direct support or behavioral health

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 18 years old
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active Registered Behavior Technician credential in good standing
• Previous direct ABA experience strongly preferred
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and current automobile insurance
• Willingness and ability to travel to multiple client homes and community locations
• Ability to pass required criminal-background, registry and employment screenings
• Consistent afternoon or early-evening availability
• Ability to respond to coverage requests within the company’s stated communication window
• Comfortable participating in active, community-based sessions
• Ability to stand, walk, bend and occasionally lift or carry activity materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to collect data, complete electronic documentation and use a company-issued iPad
• Willingness to maintain RBT certification and all required professional-development units
• Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification

Training and Advancement

Float RBTs receive client-specific training, ongoing feedback and direct clinical support from a BCBA. Professional-development opportunities may include:

• Paid cross-training across multiple client programs
• RBT renewal reimbursement

• Advancement into a permanent caseload or Lead Technician role
• Student Analyst opportunities
