About The Company

Since 1980, The Professional Tree Care Company has been trusted for tree services throughout Northern California. Based in West Berkeley, we service commercial, residential, and public works projects from Mendocino to Monterey, and from San Francisco to Sacramento. We are known for excellent customer service, and the ability to remove enormous trees using large cranes and heavy equipment.

What makes us unique? We recycle material removed from job sites at our own Green Waste Recycle Yard, mill logs into boards and create organic mulch from the wood chips. We also have the staff, equipment, resources, and experience to perform tree services at any scale.

Position Overview

PTC is seeking an experienced Salesperson to join one of our sister-companies as part of a two-person residential sales team. In this role, you will serve as the sales lead alongside an ISA-Certified Arborist & Estimator who has worked in the industry for /-10 years.

Together, you will provide estimates and expert recommendations to homeowners, many of whom have worked with us for 20 years. Your ability to listen deeply, ensure clients’ needs are being met, create estimates, perform job costing, and ask happy clients for Google and Yelp recommendations will come in handy as you and your technical partner expand this 50 year old company’s book of business.

The right person for this position is someone who knows the East Bay well, loves trees, and recognizes that being an arborist requires life-long learning. She/They/He will have a high E.Q. (emotional intelligence), have enough time to study after work in order to eventually earn their ISA-Certified Arborist certificate, and be available on occasional evenings to represent the company at community, industry, and networking events to expand market presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a sales representative and trusted advisor to customers.
• Learn to conduct site visits to assess trees and customer needs. This includes doing walkthroughs, comprehensive assessments examining tree health, structural integrity, and signs of disease, pests, or hazards such as falling limbs
• Once trained, explain/educate clients about what you observed, answer questions, identify risks, and discuss options for care or removal. Include information regarding non-chemical plant health care (PHC) options such as compost tea and biochar
• Use software and a laptop to prepare accurate estimates, proposals, and contracts that include everything the crew will need to get the job done: project specifications, photos, addresses, GPS coordinates for each tree, notes, etc
• Collaborate with operations and accounting teams to ensure estimates align with field execution (a/k/a job costing).
• Create monthly reports on close ratios, project post-mortems, and revenue growth.
• Serve as the sales lead while offering sales-related guidance, training, and support to your technical partner
  
  

Requirements

• Professional sales experience in customer-facing sales position
• Excellent communication, customer service and follow-through skills
• Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record: no points.
• Reliable transportation to all projects. (NOTE: Mileage reimbursement provided; company vehicle is not.)
• Clean criminal background history for at least 10 years.
• At least two positive professional references from companies you’ve worked for recently.
• Tech/computer savvy and familiar with a sales/CRM software like Salesforce, Jobber, or ArborNote
• Experience converting leads into projects through consultative sales practices and clear communication
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• A track record of successful client relationship building in the East Bay and preferably related to in-home residential sales
• Bilingual English/Spanish
• Familiarity with residential sales processes and estimating
• Experience networking through community outreach, which helps develop rapport and trust
• Local to Berkeley
• College degree preferred but not required
  
  

Compensation And Benefits

• $62,500.00 to $75,000.00 starting base salary. (NOTE: The higher end of this range is for someone with several years of professional sales/estimating experience in the residential trades: tree care, hardscaping, solar, energy efficiency, windows, kitchen & bath, pools, general contracting, electrical contracting, etc.)
