What are the responsibilities and job description for the CRPA-V (Veteran) Outreach position at The Prevention Council?
Position Summary:
This is a full-time position and requires CRPA-V (Certified Recovery Peer Advocate-Veteran) status. The Outreach CRPA-V will work closely with veteran populations in Saratoga County, including the VA in Albany and Saratoga County Veteran Services. This position will provide integrated services to veterans who have Substance Use Disorder or other addictive behaviors. The CRPA-V will use their lived experience as the basis for promoting recovery, offering person-centered support, advocacy, skill development, and referral. These support services will occur via direct contact within the community, at Healing Springs Recovery Center, or virtually. In addition, the CRPA-V will be expected to actively participate in community outreach programs including, but not limited to, addiction awareness panels, harm reduction and community meetings.
Duties and responsibilities
-Assist individuals with Substance Use Disorder in various settings (such as at the recovery center, out within the community, at another agency, emergency department)
-Effectively engage with individuals who want to enter into recovery
-Work within a team and maintain a collaborative relationship with all outside groups and agencies
-Support clients in pre-crisis or crisis situations
-Teach participants recovery skills, based on shared life experiences
-Link participants with needed community resources and treatment services
-Help participants transition from inpatient to community settings, as needed
-Share information with participants about benefits, entitlements and other supports
-Participate in community outreach events and training sessions to increase public understanding of addiction and recovery
-Provide Narcan and harm reduction training for individuals/groups
-Provide outreach to help participants connect with desired and appropriate services
-Attend weekly team meetings with outreach team from other agencies and with Healing Springs
-Complete all reports and paperwork in a timely manner
Qualifications
-Successful recovery from addiction or other addictive behavior (three years preferred)
-Certified as a Peer Recovery Advocate-Veteran Certification (substance use)
-Ability to model behavior consistent with the mission of the Prevention Council and the Healing Springs Recovery Community and Outreach Center
-Understanding and knowledge of Veteran services available preferred
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Excellent organizational skills, including but not limited to the ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously
-Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
-Ability to travel throughout Saratoga County (requires current, valid Driver License)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.50 - $23.00 per hour
