Job Summary
As a science teacher and member of a dynamic, collaborative team, this role provides multisensory, hands-on science instruction tailored to students with dyslexia and ADHD. The teacher designs engaging, structured lessons that make complex scientific concepts accessible through visual models, guided inquiry, and experiential learning in a supportive, nurturing environment. This position is also responsible for monitoring student growth in both content understanding and executive functioning skills and fostering a positive, structured classroom environment that supports attention, organization, and student confidence in science learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Instruct students in the designated subject area(s) while integrating multisensory teaching, strategies, and accommodations consistent with student needs.
* Utilize the school-wide adopted instructional approaches and curriculum.
* Participate in all teacher training as deemed necessary by School Administration through the school’s chosen provider(s). Adhere to all deadlines set forth by Prentice and the certification providers.
* Participate in activities and development related to the school’s accreditation and/or strategic plan.
* Actively demonstrate a proactive attitude toward technology adoption and utilization in curriculum delivery and everyday operations.
* Exhibit knowledge and application of Common Core State Standards/Next Generation Science Standards within lesson plans and work in conjunction with the Administration for the selection of instructional materials.
* Plan engaging lessons that motivate students and utilize learning time effectively.
* Take a leadership role in the school’s annual science fair.
*Model and reinforce the school’s adopted Schoolwide Learner Outcomes throughout the curriculum and your daily teaching.
*Provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and differentiation for students in the classroom setting.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education:
*Required
Bachelor’s Degree and a valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
*Preferred
Master’s degree in education, reading, or special education
Valid California Education Specialist Credential with Autism Authorization
Preferred Experience:
Previous classroom experience as a lead teacher educating students with mild to moderate special needs.
Experience as an elementary or middle school science teacher.

* Administer assessments and other forms of progressing monitoring and record results and grades in accordance with the school’s expectations and procedures.
* Complete report cards or other student progress reports in accordance with expectations and deadlines.
* Effectively use the school’s attendance, gradebook, and learner management system, as well as Google Classroom.
* Participate in IEP meetings, if necessary.
* Maintain professional communication with all stakeholders while recognizing the confidential nature of specific topics, understanding that all communication to outside vendors/parties be approved by the Assistant Head of School and/or the Head of School.
* Collaborate with other school professionals in order to support student success.
* Create an effective learning environment consisting of an organized, clean, safe, and climate controlled classroom.
* Comply with and enforce all Prentice policies and standards as set forth by the Staff Handbook, Prentice Handbook, Safe School Plan, and all other school documents or as communicated by the Head of School.
* Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, requesting and reporting absences (personal and sick time) and tardies to your supervisor in accordance with the Staff Handbook.
* Supervise students while engaging in Prentice sponsored activities, events and field trips as assigned.
* Participate in all scheduled faculty meetings and Prentice professional development sessions.
* Participate in proactive, goal-setting meetings with the Director of Program and/or Assistant Head of School.
* Participate in parent conferences and other required school events and functions.
* Attend overnight science camp and supervise students as required (mandatory for all teachers teaching 7th and 8th grades and others upon assignment).
* Meet all deadlines as set forth by the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, Director of Program and/or Department Chairs.
* Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, assuming outdoor supervision duty.
