Sales Manager – Rail Switching & Industrial Services

Job Summary

The Prairie Line is seeking a Sales Manager to drive growth in our contract rail switching and industrial services business. This role is responsible for developing new customers, managing key accounts, and delivering customized rail service solutions to industrial clients.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in railroad operations, short line railroads, or transportation/logistics sales.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business for:
  • In-plant rail switching
  • Yard operations
  • Railcar handling and storage
  • Build relationships with plant managers, logistics teams, and decision-makers
  • Conduct customer site visits and operational assessments
  • Develop and present customized switching and service solutions
  • Prepare pricing and negotiate service agreements
  • Partner with operations to ensure safe, efficient service delivery
  • Manage existing accounts and drive contract renewals
  • Maintain sales pipeline, forecasts, and CRM activity

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in one of the following:
  • Railroad (Class I, II, or III)
  • Industrial rail switching or terminal operations
  • Transportation or logistics sales
  • Strong understanding of rail operations and industrial environments
  • Proven B2B sales and negotiation experience
  • Ability to travel (40–60%)

Preferred

  • Short line railroad or contract switching experience
  • Existing relationships with rail-served customers
  • Experience with transloading or bulk commodities
