Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and patient-focused Patient Care Coordinator/Medical Assistant to join our Outpatient Mental Health Clinic team. This role is responsible for coordinating patient care, supporting clinical staff, and ensuring a positive experience for individuals receiving behavioral health services.

The Patient Care Coordinator assists with scheduling, patient intake, communication with providers, and basic clinical tasks such as recording patient vital signs. The ideal candidate is empathetic, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a mental health care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with intake procedures to ensure a seamless check-in process
  • Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates with precision
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients seeking mental health services.
  • Greet patients, check them in, and ensure all intake paperwork is completed.
  • Schedule, confirm, and manage therapy and psychiatric appointments.
  • Maintain and update accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Coordinate communication between patients, therapists, psychiatrists, and other clinical staff.
  • Verify insurance benefits and assist with referrals or prior authorizations.
  • Provide appointment reminders and follow up with patients regarding treatment plans or scheduling needs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Help create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for patients receiving mental health services.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, follow-up calls, and managing patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency
  • Support the clinical team during emergency situations by understanding protocols related to urgent care and hospital medicine when applicable

Requirements

  • Prior experience working in outpatient clinics or hospital settings, especially within mental health or medical-surgical environments
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or medical/behavioral health training preferred).
  • Familiarity with EHR systems for documentation and patient record management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Experience supporting intake processes and vital signs measurement.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in mental health, psychiatry, or behavioral health settings.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health terminology and patient intake procedures.
  • Experience with medical scheduling and insurance verification.
