The Potter’s House Ministries in Sciotoville, Ohio is now accepting applications for a yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA position—a unique opportunity to serve, grow, and make a lasting impact in your community.
What is VISTA?
Founded in 1965 as Volunteers in Service to America, AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program designed to fight poverty through capacity-building. VISTA members commit to serving full-time in nonprofit organizations and public agencies across the country to create sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by low-income communities.
Good news: You can renew your VISTA position up to 3 times, gaining even more experience and continuing your impact over multiple years.
What We Do at The Potter’s House:
We’re more than just a food pantry—we’re becoming a one-stop resource hub for the Scioto County community.
Our services include:
- A choice food pantry and senior box program for low-income seniors
- Summer and rural feeding programs for children while school is out
- Christmas gift outreach for local children
- Benefits application assistance (HEAP, PIPP, SNAP, and medical insurance)
- A year-round tax preparation site
- If we don’t have what a client needs, we often know someone who does.
As Our VISTA Member, You Will:
- Build a community garden and develop curriculum around healthy living
- Coordinate job fairs, skill-building workshops, and volunteer opportunities
- Expand our food delivery program to increase access to nutritious food
- Support fundraising and grant writing efforts to grow our programs
- Create a community resource guide to connect residents to local services
- Grow and maintain our volunteer base
Preferred Qualifications:
- Passion for community service and addressing poverty-related issues
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized and self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects
- Experience or interest in community outreach, education, or volunteer coordination
- Basic knowledge of gardening, nutrition, or healthy living is a plus
- Comfort with grant writing, fundraising, or resource development (or willingness to learn)
- Experience working with nonprofits or underserved populations is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High school diploma or GED (some college or relevant experience preferred)
Position Benefits:
- Living Stipend: $957.46 biweekly
- Housing Stipend: $200 monthly
- End-of-Service Award: Choice of a $7,395 Education Award or $1,800 Cash Award
