About the Role
As a reporting department to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller’s Department is a team of dedicated professionals who ensure the accuracy of the Port Authority’s finances. As part of the Comptroller’s Department team, the Staff Account ant helps make sure E-ZPass and other tolling transactions are recorded correctly. This role is part of the Revenue Accounting team and works closely with other departments and external parties to review and reconcile revenue activity. It is a good fit for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work and solving problems. The work done in this role supports month-end closing and helps ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting for the department

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors.
The Expected Compensation Range For This Role Is
Minimum: $58,292 Midpoint: $75,796 Maximum: $ 93,288
In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week, subject to operational and business needs.

Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Staff Accounting Supervisor, the responsibilities of the Staff Accountant will include, but not be limited to:
- Communicating with several E-ZP ass agencies to prepare weekly/monthly settlements.
- Developing credit card percentages using third party vendor’s reports.
- Preparing credit card fees to exchange with outside agencies using settlement reports.
- Running reports and preparing journal entries for month-end closing .
- Preparing a summary of the Sales Deposit Report for cash clearing for month-end closing.
- Preparing a monthly reconciliation and investigating large variances during month-end closing.
- Accessing, downloading, and saving reports from Crystal/SAP or received directly from third party vendor.
- Working closely with TB&T, consultants and internal/external auditors.
- Ad hoc projects .
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Corporate Finance from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience.
- In lieu of bachelor’s degree a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience can be accepted.
- Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods.
Ideal candidates will present the following profile:
- Knowledge of Port Authority accounting and financial structure.
- Knowledge of Port Authority businesses and operations.
- Knowledge of GAAP as it relates to the Port Authority.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills in reconciling financial information.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex information clearly and accurately.
- Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external staff at all levels.
- Working knowledge of SAP.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
