Pool & Hot Tub Service Technician
Pool Service, Maintenance & Equipment Installation

The Pool Store, Inc. — Hayes/Gloucester, Virginia
Pay: $28–$35 per hour, based on demonstrated skills and qualifications
Full-time, year-round
Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays during peak season

Bring your pool service skills to a full-time, year-round position with The Pool Store, Inc. We’re hiring a technician who can independently open and close pools, install pumps and basic equipment, perform routine repairs, and deliver thorough pool maintenance.

You’ll handle a mix of seasonal service, equipment work, and maintenance at customer properties, using a company service truck and company-provided tools. This position is a good fit for someone who works carefully, solves everyday service problems, and follows through from the initial inspection to a completed, documented job.

What we provide

  • $28–$35 per hour, with starting pay based on the skills and qualifications you bring to the position.
  • Full-time, year-round employment.
  • Health insurance with an employer contribution.
  • Paid time off.
  • A company service truck for daily field work, returned at the end of the workday.
  • All required tools.
  • Spa and hot tub training for qualified pool technicians.

What you’ll do

  • Open and close pools: Complete seasonal openings, equipment startups, closings, and winterizations. Check system operation during startup and properly prepare equipment and plumbing for winter.
  • Maintain pools: Perform cleaning, water testing and balancing, filter cleaning or backwashing, and routine inspections. Recognize and address common water-quality, filtration, and circulation problems.
  • Install equipment: Install and replace pumps, filters, and other basic pool equipment. Complete the associated plumbing and equipment connections, perform basic setup, and check for leaks and proper operation.
  • Complete routine repairs: Repair or replace PVC pipe, fittings, valves, and related components. Perform basic equipment-related electrical checks and connections within your training and assigned scope.
  • Manage assigned service work: Work independently, prepare the tools and materials needed for each job, and keep the office informed of progress, additional repair needs, and scheduling issues.
  • Communicate and document: Explain completed work and recommended follow-up to customers. Record clear service notes, water readings, parts and chemicals used, and relevant job photos.
  • Finish each job properly: Verify the result of your work, leave the customer’s property clean and orderly, and communicate anything that needs further attention. Keep the company truck, tools, and supplies organized.

What you should bring

  • Demonstrated ability to perform pool openings, closings, maintenance, pump installations, and basic repairs independently.
  • Strong working knowledge of pool water chemistry, circulation, filtration, and routine equipment operation.
  • Practical skills with hand tools, basic plumbing, and equipment-related electrical work.
  • Good troubleshooting judgment, including recognizing when a problem requires additional technical support.
  • Dependable work habits, attention to detail, and professional communication with customers and coworkers.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company driving requirements and report to our Hayes/Gloucester location.
  • The ability to perform essential outdoor field duties, including using tools and handling pool equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

We hire based on demonstrated ability. There is no fixed minimum number of years of experience, but applicants must already be able to perform the required pool service work independently.

Spa and hot tub experience is preferred. A qualified pool technician can receive training in spa service.

How to apply

Submit a resume or a brief work history. Include a few sentences about your experience opening and closing pools and an example of a pump installation, equipment replacement, or plumbing repair you completed. Tell us which pool service tasks you can confidently handle independently.
