The Plum Company’s sales representatives support customers across the upper Midwest, including Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Role Description The Technical Outside Sales Representative is a full-time, on-site role based in Stillwater, MN. This role is responsible for managing and growing customer accounts by promoting boiler auxiliary, process, and industrial safety equipment solutions. Day-to-day activities include visiting customer facilities, understanding technical requirements, preparing quotations, and coordinating with manufacturers to provide accurate product information and timely support. The Technical Sales Representative will set meetings, conduct product presentations and training, respond to customer inquiries, and assist in resolving issues related to equipment selection, installation, and operation. The role also involves maintaining detailed records of sales activities, forecasting opportunities, and contributing to regional sales strategies.
Qualifications
- Strong Technical Sales and Outside Sales skills, with the ability to understand and communicate technical product features and benefits.
- Proven experience in industrial, process, or mechanical equipment outside sales is required.
- Excellent Customer Service and Communication skills to build long-term relationships and respond effectively to customer needs.
- Previous experience delivering product demonstrations and educational sessions to customers.
- Ability to learn industrial and process equipment applications, including boiler auxiliary and safety systems.
- Comfort with on-site customer visits, including travel within the upper Midwest region.
- Effective time and territory management, organization, and follow-up skills in a field-based sales environment.
- Proficiency with common business software (e.g., CRM tools, email, spreadsheets, and presentation software).
- Relevant technical or business education (e.g., bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or business)
