DESCRIPTION
The Playwrights Realm, an Obie Award-winning non-profit dedicated to new plays and unique boundary-pushing projects, seeks an individual with experience facilitating group discussions relating to progressive social and/or political movements, to participate in a private development workshop of Daria Miyeko Marinelli’s This is Not NOT a Drill (TINNAD). This is a site-specific project that lives at the intersection of art and activism, and no acting or theatre experience is required.
About the Project:
TINNAD is a unique, site-specific event that combines elements of self-guided audio tour through Lower Manhattan with facilitated collaborative activities to help participants explore the city’s history of injustice and rebellion, and discover what adventure exists in taking a stand. Elements of the experience take place both on the city streets around City Hall Park, as well as in a nearby loft space.
About the position:
The function of the Discussion Facilitator within the experience is to guide audience discussions about activism, supporting audience members in both understanding what’s holding them back from joining in activism or other movement work, and figuring out meaningful steps they can take. May also be asked to have one-on-one interactions with participants as the experience ends. This workshop will allow the author to test out current draft and new ideas. Openness to collaboration, and a willingness to try new approaches, is an essential part of this position.
Job Requirements:

Prior Experience facilitating conversations, particularly around activism and engagement, including mixed race groups of people processing systems of discrimination.

Ability to support a table of people who feel overwhelmed or discouraged in a grounding, visionary way.

Ability to transform excuses/self-reflection to action by asking opening, non judgemental questions. Ease with slow, thought-provoking conversation.

No theatre experience required.

Schedule and Compensation:

The workshop will take place between June 1st and 7th at various locations in Lower Manhattan, primarily near City Hall Park.

Hours will vary, but will require availability between 11am and 7pm each day. (Specific schedule will be coordinated with participants in advance.)

Position pays $20/hr. Anticipated time commitment is 15 - 25 hours for the week.
