Position Summary
The NiederWALDO Express Conductor is one of the most visible and memorable roles at The Playground at Niederwald. Your mission is simple: safely operate the NiederWALDO Express while creating an unforgettable experience for every family that climbs aboard.
We're looking for someone who is energetic, outgoing, and naturally loves interacting with children. If you can make kids laugh, tell a great story, and turn an ordinary train ride into an adventure, we'd love to meet you.
Primary ResponsibilitiesSafely Operate the NiederWALDO Express
Safety is always your first priority.
Responsibilities include:
- Safely operate the John Deere NiederWALDO Express throughout each shift.
- Perform daily pre-trip safety inspections before opening.
- Ensure all passengers are loaded and unloaded safely.
- Follow all operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Monitor weather and operating conditions.
- Keep the train clean, fueled, and ready for operation.
- Immediately report any mechanical or safety concerns.
Create an Unforgettable Train Ride
Every ride should be an experience that guests remember.
As conductor, you will:
- Welcome every passenger with excitement and enthusiasm.
- Narrate the ride as you travel through the property.
- Encourage guests to search for all of the hidden NiederWALDO characters along the route.
- Point out attractions, activities, and unique features around the park.
- Share the story of The Playground at Niederwald and the Maxwell family's dream of creating an oasis where families can spend quality time together.
- Tell guests about upcoming attractions, events, food, and experiences available throughout the park.
- Celebrate birthdays, first train rides, and special moments whenever possible.
- Keep riders engaged, smiling, laughing, and excited from departure to arrival.
Guest Experience Responsibilities
When you are not operating the train, you will serve as a Guest Experience Team Member inside Rocky's Treasure Trading Company.
Responsibilities include:
- Welcome every guest with a warm, enthusiastic greeting.
- Answer questions about attractions, passes, pricing, and events.
- Help families choose adventures that best fit their visit.
- Sell train rides, adventure passes, gem mining, geode cracking, treasure workshops, and other experiences.
- Crack geodes for guests while making it an exciting and memorable experience.
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
- Keep the gift shop stocked, organized, and inviting.
Grounds & Park Support
Every team member helps keep The Playground at Niederwald beautiful.
Responsibilities include:
- Pick up litter throughout the property.
- Empty trash cans as needed.
- Refill guest water stations.
- Wipe down tables and guest seating areas.
- Keep the train station clean and presentable.
- Report maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
- Assist with other tasks wherever needed to keep the park operating smoothly.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable operating equipment and following safety procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Friendly, energetic, and confident speaking to groups of guests.
- Able to work outdoors in Texas weather.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and remain active throughout the day.
- Weekend and holiday availability is required.

Pay: From $12.00 per hour
