About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Plant Operator to support the operation and maintenance of a groundwater pumping and wastewater treatment facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Candidates should have extensive wastewater treatment operations experience, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate groundwater pumping and wastewater treatment systems in accordance with federal and state permits and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor plant operations, adjust treatment processes, and record operational data to ensure proper biological and chemical treatment.
- Operate and monitor SCADA systems, instrumentation, pumps, blowers, compressors, filters, mixers, feeders, and other treatment equipment.
- Collect groundwater and wastewater samples and perform water quality testing, including pH, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, solids determination, sludge volume, turbidity, and well capacity testing.
- Maintain accurate daily operating logs, equipment maintenance records, and regulatory documentation.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation, plant equipment, and operational issues to minimize downtime.
- Respond to system alarms, plant shutdowns, and after-hours emergencies as required.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits and company safety policies.
- Serve as the site safety lead by enforcing safety procedures for employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors.
- Coordinate subcontractors performing maintenance and repair activities.
- Support emergency response planning with adjacent facilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field with 8 years of water/wastewater treatment operations and maintenance experience, OR
- Associate degree in Science or a related field with 9 years of related experience, OR
- High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of water/wastewater treatment operations and maintenance experience.
- Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with required refresher training.
- Holds or has made recent progress toward obtaining a Missouri Grade D Wastewater Operator Certification.
- Experience operating wastewater treatment facilities and groundwater treatment systems.
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems and plant instrumentation.
- Experience collecting water samples and performing laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment regulations, operating permits, and environmental compliance.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with metals precipitation processes is a plus.
