Job Description
The Pilot Plant Supervisor is an on-site role in Columbia, MD.Responsibilities
- Compliance with all Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training, policies and procedures. Attend a variety of safety meetings and discussions.
- Lead all aspects of operation and maintenance of the pilot plants, including staffing assignment, resource allocation and coordination of both critical and preventive maintenance.
- In-depth knowledge of the Critical Life Safety program and Safe Work Authorization program
- Coordinate contractor visits, including Safe Work Authorization and permitting.
- Leading and driving cultural change by influencing and gaining support from technicians, engineers and leaders of the PCC organization while enacting cultural and process improvements.
- Participate in the development of short and long-term pilot plant schedules
- Maintain proficiency with software that affects the operation of the pilot units, including the SAP-ARIBA procurement system, Accolade Capital Project Management system, Enablon Management of Change software and EMAINT maintenance management.
- Diagnose and solve process technical problems, help identify the root cause of process deviations and failures and establish and track metrics related to such failures.
- Routinely work near hazardous chemicals and various organic and air sensitive materials, in both electrically classified and unclassified areas, while understanding their nuances and requirements.
- Read and understand safety data sheets, environmental or incident reports, process operating instructions, P&ID’s, Job Safety Analysis forms, etc.
- Good written and oral communication skills, prepare Standard Operating Procedures, technical explanations and guidelines as requested.
- Understand corporate and work unit goals and objectives and manage maintenance and capital programs in a manner to achieve such goals. Lead capital projects, oversee the inventory of critical spare parts and solicit equipment and material price quotes as needed.
- Display the ability to supervise and develop other employees, and to work closely with contractors and site leadership to accomplish capital and maintenance goals.
- Occasionally lead tours of the pilot plant facility (internal and external).
- Prepare, coordinate and conduct periodic training, including Critical Life Safety training
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- High School Diploma
- Demonstrated mechanical experience with equipment set-up and minor maintenance.
- Experience drafting and understanding technical documents
- Experience with various computers systems, navigate and utilize MS Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
- Experience in a manufacturing setting
- Experience in handling pyrophoric and/or organic materials
