What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journalist position at The Pilot Newspaper?
The Pilot in Southern Pines, N.C. is seeking enterprising, experienced news journalists who know the power and strength of community news. We publish daily online and in print Wednesdays and Sundays. Successful candidates will be skilled at covering local government, business and community news. You will have an opportunity to grow into new skills and be part of a young, committed newsroom of 9 full-time staffers who value teamwork in a supportive environment.
Weight is given to candidates with prior journalism experience or current work in the communications industry. You will be expected to report, write, take some photos for your stories and be competent at managing content for online and social media. You'll need good time management skills to meet deadlines and balance your schedule around a variety of assignments.
The Pilot is a 106-year-old newspaper that has been locally owned since day one and remains staunchly independent. We have been named the top community newspaper in America five times, including three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. We also have been named the top community paper in North Carolina the last two years.
