The Philadelphia Inquirer
The Philadelphia Inquirer Salary
Philadelphia, PA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/12/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/11/2026
The Philadelphia Inquirer is looking for a thoughtful, imaginative and highly collaborative mixed methods UX Researcher to join our award-winning product team. This researcher will be a cross-functional collaborator, working with designers, engineers, product managers, marketers, editors and journalists to improve our customers' experiences across multiple product segments: on-site, via our app, and through our print product.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct user research independently: usability and prototype testing, card sorting, moderated interviews and focus groups
  • Write and analyze survey data (including survey logic) and explain results for team members & stakeholders
  • Help to create a research-driven product through translating data to tell a story
  • Uniquely identifying the questions we never thought to ask, influencing our product direction
  • Work with the Director of User Research to prioritize requests, ensuring testing is valuable and cost-effective
  • Support cross-functional teams including marketing, product, and the newsroom with a client-first approach
  • Contribute to an inclusive and positive work environment

Who We’re Looking For

Someone who is passionate about journalism and making impactful, positive change in the Philadelphia community.

We care about all our users—our audience, the Newsroom, advertisers. We start by identifying their pain points and thinking creatively about how to address them. Our goal is to help build a sustainable financial future for The Inquirer by saving readers time and creating more useful news experiences.

Qualifications Include

  • 1-3 years of experience in a research-related field
  • Familiarity with quantitative data analysis languages (e.g, R or Python) or willingness to learn independently
  • Ability to work independently on 3-4 projects at once to produce deliverables to keep engineering deadlines on track
  • Familiarity with usability testing tools like Usertesting or User Interviews, and survey tools like Qualtrics or Surveymonkey
  • A familiarity with AI-based tools used to supplement analysis, without a reliance on them
  • Familiarity with UX research methodologies like usability testing, card sorting, preference testing, structured interviews, and focus groups
  • Ability to assist with and run recruitment efforts for research studies, including clear and professional communication with research participants
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills to clearly communicate a project’s rationale, advocate for our research, present findings, and know when to ask for support
  • Values quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and understands the methodologies to effectively do both
  • Eagerness to work on a team that values kindness, clarity, encouragement, and professional development
