The Philadelphia Inquirer is looking for a thoughtful, imaginative and highly collaborative mixed methods UX Researcher to join our award-winning product team. This researcher will be a cross-functional collaborator, working with designers, engineers, product managers, marketers, editors and journalists to improve our customers' experiences across multiple product segments: on-site, via our app, and through our print product.

What You’ll Do
- Conduct user research independently: usability and prototype testing, card sorting, moderated interviews and focus groups
- Write and analyze survey data (including survey logic) and explain results for team members & stakeholders
- Help to create a research-driven product through translating data to tell a story
- Uniquely identifying the questions we never thought to ask, influencing our product direction
- Work with the Director of User Research to prioritize requests, ensuring testing is valuable and cost-effective
- Support cross-functional teams including marketing, product, and the newsroom with a client-first approach
- Contribute to an inclusive and positive work environment

Qualifications Include
- 1-3 years of experience in a research-related field
- Familiarity with quantitative data analysis languages (e.g, R or Python) or willingness to learn independently
- Ability to work independently on 3-4 projects at once to produce deliverables to keep engineering deadlines on track
- Familiarity with usability testing tools like Usertesting or User Interviews, and survey tools like Qualtrics or Surveymonkey
- A familiarity with AI-based tools used to supplement analysis, without a reliance on them
- Familiarity with UX research methodologies like usability testing, card sorting, preference testing, structured interviews, and focus groups
- Ability to assist with and run recruitment efforts for research studies, including clear and professional communication with research participants
- Strong spoken and written communication skills to clearly communicate a project’s rationale, advocate for our research, present findings, and know when to ask for support
- Values quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and understands the methodologies to effectively do both
