Senior Associate, Broadband Initiative

Position Overview

The senior associate supports the development and implementation of the project’s research agenda as part of its strategy to promote broadband access and affordability. Reporting to the manager, research, broadband access initiative, the senior associate is responsible for authoring and co-authoring research papers and issue briefs, reviewing project materials, supporting the implementation of the project’s communications and outreach strategy, and presenting research findings, as appropriate. The senior associate also assists with managing external contracts and ensuring alignment of deliverables with project priorities and goals.

Located in Pew’s Washington, D.C. office, this position participates in Pew’s hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework “flex weeks” per year.

Responsibilities

• Provide research, analysis, and writing support for research projects, including data collection, management, and analysis for visualization and survey projects.
• Participate in the full publication lifecycle, including ideating, proposing, authoring and co-authoring written materials, facilitating internal processes for publication, and supporting outreach activities.
• Support research on state legislative and industry developments and trends, summarizing findings into actionable insights for project leadership and external audiences.
• Contribute to rigorous internal quality control processes and methodological rigor by reviewing written products for accuracy, identifying appropriate data sources and datapoints, and monitoring interpretation and messaging of research findings.
• Work with senior staff to monitor research grant agreements and deliverables, including reviewing proposals and coordinating with grantees on methodology.
• Cultivate expertise on universal broadband access, digital equity, and related issues by monitoring publications, reviewing policy, and participating in seminars, and other professional development activities.
• Participate in activities that support program and Pew-wide objectives.
  
  

Requirements

• Demonstrated research and analytical skills applied to public policy, including experience synthesizing and summarizing large amounts of information and focusing quickly on the essence of an issue.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, including an aptitude to write quickly and succinctly as well as revise and edit based on input from a range of reviewers.
• Ability to apply a non-partisan, evidence-based approach to research and projects that require support across the political spectrum.
• Effective interpersonal skills. Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage productive and collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
• Proven capacity to think strategically and creatively, juggle multiple priorities, adjust to changing circumstances, organize time efficiently, and remain attentive to details.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Generally, four years of applicable experience.
  
  

Key Attributes And Preferred Experience

• Experience applying mixed methods research and evidence of quantitative analysis skills, including familiarity with R, Stata, or additional statistical software.
• Experience in broadband policy, including access, affordability, and adoption.
  
  

Travel

This position requires occasional domestic travel to meetings and conferences.

Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without visa sponsorship.

Salary Range

United States Pay Range: $87,200 - $97,500

The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on Pew’s commitment to provide equitable and market-competitive pay. The actual salary offered will take into consideration many factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills and experience, internal pay equity, and business need.
