Project Accountant
Position Summary
An established, growth-oriented construction firm is seeking a highly detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial operations of large, complex construction projects. This role focuses on managing high-volume transactional data, maintaining accurate job cost records, and ensuring precise billings and reporting.
The ideal candidate is process-driven, highly accurate, self-motivated, and possesses deep experience with construction-specific accounting workflows. This position will collaborate closely with operations and reports directly to the Project Cost Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Job Costing & AP Management: Process high-volume AP invoice entries with precise job, phase, and cost type allocations. Ensure all costs align with project budgets and collaborate with the Project Cost Controller on necessary cost adjustments.
- Progress Billings: Coordinate directly with project management to validate percents complete and billing quantities. Prepare and process comprehensive owner billings and manage the schedule of values (SOV) and billing adjustments.
- Compliance & Tax Tracking: Track and apply retainage and taxes accurately across all billings. Manage all compliance aspects of billings, including distribution protocols, lien waivers, insurance certificates, and certified payroll reporting.
- Subcontractor Management: Review and process subcontractor pay applications and invoices while ensuring full contract and subcontract compliance.
- Change Orders & Forecasting: Partner with the Project Cost Controller to track change orders, provide revenue/cost adjustments, and maintain tight alignment between contracts, budgets, and cost projections.
- Month-End & Analysis: Assist with month-end close processes and participate in monthly cost reviews between operations and accounting to identify overruns, miscoded items, or billing discrepancies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Software Expertise: Proven, strong hands-on experience utilizing Viewpoint Vista is highly preferred/required.
- Industry Experience: Solid background in construction accounting workflows, including commitments, change orders, and subcontract compliance.
- Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong data entry accuracy, and the ability to manage high-volume financial data in a fast-paced environment.
