Summary of Job:
Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, in Hershey, PA, announces an open faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor to join the Division of Comparative Medicine. The applicant must have a MD degree and significant experience in microsurgery and animal science. The Division of Comparative Medicine is newly established within the Department of Surgery to support animal-based research. The Division collaborates closely with surgeons, cardiologists, veterinarians, and commercial partners. The position will focus on research and hands on training of microsurgical skills.
The successful candidate shall have a proven track record in biomaterials development, including a track record of successful funding from the National Institutes of Health, and a strong publication record in this area. The candidate shall have experience as a principal investigator managing a multi-disciplinary team.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Perform in vivo and surgical model-based research
- Develop surgical and post-operative procedures with team
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams
- Provide expert faculty oversight for IACUC protocol development
- Collaborate with other resources across the University
- Mentor post docs and residents
Specific qualifications include:
- MD with cardiovascular experience and fellowship training.
- Strong microsurgical techniques.
- Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and good communication skills.
- Ability to work across multiple project areas and contribute to other investigators within the multiple divisions in the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine as well as across the Hershey Campus.
