About the Job:
The Unit Clerk performs a variety of secretarial and clerical support duties for the inpatient nursing unit. Ensures the timely, efficient, and organized flow of operations for the assigned nursing station/area. Responsibilities include maintenance of the medical records on the unit, general office management of files, ordering supplies, arranging internal consultations and transportation.Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assembles and maintains patient charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges per facility policy.
- Answers phones in a professional and timely manner and directs calls to appropriate individuals and/or takes messages.
- Maintains patient records and administrative reports.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties relating to updating, organizing, and communicating information on a nursing unit.
- Coordinates administrative work within the unit as well as with other units and departments.
- Reports pertinent information in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor.
- Responds to inquiries and requests from staff and patients.
- Performs maintenance tasks relating to chart order, chart accuracy and chart current data.
- Organizes, monitors, stocks units with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain established inventories, as required.
- Faxes and photocopies information, as needed.
- Delivers incoming and outgoing mail to the units and distributes announcements and posts memos.
- Obtains lab, x-ray and consult reports, as needed.
- Identifies and reports equipment or environmental problems promptly for correction.
- Assists in arranging patient consultations and transportation
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in healthcare setting preferred.
- Customer service and administrative/clerical skills required.
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility.
