Food Service Director
The Pavilion at Queens is committed to improving our residents' quality of life and autonomy through exceptional, client-centered care. We are seeking an experienced Food Service Director to join our interdisciplinary team at our skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Flushing, Queens.
The Food Service Director will oversee the daily operations of the Dietary Department, including menu planning, food preparation, meal service, staffing, inventory, sanitation, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and experience managing food services in a long-term care setting.
Responsibilities include:
Oversee daily dietary operations, including food preparation and meal service
Coordinate menus and ensure proper portion sizes and special dietary needs are met
Ensure compliance with all applicable DOH, state, and federal regulations and food safety standards
Monitor sanitation and cleanliness of kitchens, food storage areas, coolers, freezers, and equipment
Inspect food, supplies, and equipment to ensure quality and appropriate stock levels
Manage inventory, purchasing, ordering, and receiving of food and supplies within budget
Maintain accurate inventory and temperature records
Schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate Dietary Department staff
Ensure proper staffing and efficient scheduling of department personnel
Manage departmental labor and food costs
Develop and maintain food service policies and procedures
Investigate and resolve resident and family concerns regarding food quality and service
Conduct staff training and in-services on food preparation, sanitation, safety, and kitchen procedures
Assist with meal service and other departmental duties as needed
Qualifications:
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) preferred/required
Previous Food Service Director or Dietary Director experience
Long-term care (LTC) experience required
Strong knowledge of DOH regulations and food safety requirements
Experience with food purchasing, inventory management, and budget control
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Knowledge of kitchen operations, sanitation, and staff management
