Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Therapist position specializes in infant and early childhood mental health and trauma to help children & caregivers find pathways to heal from and prevent future occurrence of child abuse, neglect, out-of-home placement, domestic violence, and other traumatic experiences. This is accomplished by providing a trauma-responsive, hope-centered, relationship-focused, safe environment, meeting clients where they are at, processing emotional, developmental, relationship and behavioral challenges, collaborating closely and frequently with other child/family-serving organizations and utilizing evidence-based therapeutic modalities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, and/or group counseling to infants, children and adult caregivers utilizing evidence-based, agency-approved therapeutic modalities from an infant/early childhood mental health and trauma-informed perspective. Services are primarily provided in-office and over telehealth. Services may be provided on occasion in other safe, appropriate settings including daycare, home, & community based on availability, safety and need.
  • Facilitate approximately 1-2 protective parenting groups / week on an ongoing basis. Groups may take place in-office, via telehealth or at a pre-approved, alternative community location.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with clear, concise, accurate language and the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Must be able to work at least one evening per week until 8pm to accommodate client / caregiver service needs, including protective parenting groups.
  • Administer & interpret assessments and integrate results into case conceptualization and client feedback based on client/family presenting problems (ie. depression, anxiety, attachment, parent-child interaction, safety, parenting stress, trauma, etc.). Facilitate referrals to additional services and community resources as indicated from intake and ongoing assessments.
  • Diagnose using DC 0-5 and/or DSM-5 and participate in treatment & discharge planning for clients served ensuring that documentation is compliant with client funding source.
  • Interface with internal and external systems that impact the social, emotional and mental health of infants, children and families (OHS Child Welfare, Juvenile court system, school, physicians/pediatricians, and other service providers) in an effort to collaborate, communicate and coordinate care as well as to facilitate professional development and advocate for prevention of child abuse and neglect.
  • Maintain an active caseload that meets the minimum direct service hours per week (14 hrs/week). Additional time is in indirect services including frequent collaboration/consultation with internal and external systems, report writing, & court testimony prep (when needed).
  • Maintain accurate client case records and complete documentation within 48 hours from the time of service to meet COA requirements.
  • Utilize videotape of client sessions and assessments for supervision and consultation within the agency and for educational purposes in training groups outside of the agency, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning opportunities such as formalized training, workshops/conferences, supervision and self-study to maintain annual professional counseling licensure (including ethics) continuing education requirements and to facilitate professional growth and development.
  • Have a good understanding of reflective supervision/consultation, vicarious trauma and how to consistently incorporate self-care strategies to manage exposure to challenging clients, difficult and traumatic client experiences, and mitigate effects of stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout.
  • Participate in Performance & Quality Improvement initiatives that promote and support accrediting body standards within the agency and within the Therapeutic Services program.
  • Assist with other duties assigned for the efficient operation of the agency or program.
  • If Bilingual – Therapist must have the ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently. Must be willing/able to provide services in Spanish when needed.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or other related mental health field. Licensed or license eligible (under supervision) in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Working knowledge of family systems, trauma, attachment theory and treatment strategies for infants, children and adults.
  • Clinical skill and training in providing individual, family and group counseling.
  • Good driving record and reliable transportation; willingness to meet clients in alternative, safe settings outside the office as appropriate.
  • Commitment to a professional growth / development mindset and maintaining Oklahoma counseling licensure (or under supervision) status.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and get up and down from floor setting to engage in play therapy as needed. Ability to sit for extended time periods to complete computer work.
  • Strong computer skills (excel, word, electronic health record, google forms, zoom/telehealth); good organization and assessment skills; strong ability to utilize program technology in an efficient manner such as typing to enter client documentation in electronic health record within agency standard, entering assessment data, recording client sessions, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual, Spanish speaking.
  • Licensed Therapist (LMFT, LPC, LCSW, LADC).
  • Oklahoma Association for Infant Mental Health Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Based Practice Promoting Infant Mental Health, Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMH-E)
  • Specialized training related to trauma, domestic violence, substance abuse, infant/early childhood mental health & development, and/or poverty.
  • Training, rostering and/or certification in one or more of our evidence-based treatment models including: Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Attachment Biobehavioral Catch Up Model (ABC), Circle of Security (COS).
