Position Overview
The Controller / Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role ensures adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and DYCD contract requirements, while providing strategic financial guidance to leadership.
The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and strategic, with strong experience in nonprofit finance, government contracts, and audit preparation.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage cash flow and financial forecasting
- Present financial reports to senior leadership and Board of Directors
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting process across programs and departments
- Monitor budget vs. actuals and provide variance analysis
- Support program teams in financial planning and grant budgeting
DYCD Contract Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) fiscal requirements
- Prepare and submit budgets, invoices, and financial reports in DYCD systems (e.g., PASSPort)
- Monitor contract spending and ensure alignment with approved budgets
- Maintain supporting documentation for audits and site visits
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
- Oversee preparation of IRS Form 990
Leadership & Operations
- Supervise and mentor finance staff (if applicable)
- Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure financial alignment
- Support strategic decision-making through financial analysis
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–8 years of experience in nonprofit finance or accounting
- Strong knowledge of government funding, preferably DYCD contracts
- Experience with audit preparation and financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
