Job Summary
The Shop Assistant supports technicians, managers, and the front office by handling shop maintenance, parts preparation and organization, and basic vehicle servicing. The primary goal is to maximize the efficiency of the mechanics by ensuring the workspace is clean, the shop machinery is maintained, and parts and vehicles are staged and ready for service.
Key Responsibilities1. Shop Maintenance & Safety
- Cleanliness: Sweep floors, clean up spills, and dispose of hazardous waste (like old coolant or tires) according to safety regulations.
- Equipment maintenance: Daily inspection and as-needed maintenance of wet-blast, sand-blast, and other machinery to ensure optimal safety and function.
- Organization: Return tools to their proper stations and ensure the inventory of shop supplies is stocked.
- Safety Compliance: Maintain a clutter-free environment to prevent accidents and ensure all safety equipment is accessible and fully equipped.
2. Technical Support
- Basic Servicing: Perform simple tasks such as oil changes, fluid top-offs, and battery testing under supervision.
- Tool Preparation: Set up specialized equipment or lifts for senior technicians before a job begins.
- Parts Running: Pick up parts from local suppliers or organize incoming shipments in the parts room.
3. Vehicle & Customer Service
- Valet Duties: Move customer vehicles in and out of service bays and park them in designated areas.
- Detailing: Wash, vacuum, and prep vehicles for customer pickup to ensure a professional presentation.
- Inspections: Conduct basic vehicle inspections following a checklist at vehicle intake and pre-delivery.
- Transport: Experience trailing vehicles safely with both open and enclosed trailers a plus.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (Required for moving vehicles).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in various temperatures.
- Basic knowledge of automotive tools, strong work ethic, and ability to follow directions.
Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
