JOB OVERVIEW: 

The Physician Assistant (PA) provides medical care and clinical support under the supervision of an Interventional Pain Management Physician in an outpatient clinic setting. The PA is responsible for evaluating patients, assisting with treatment planning, providing follow-up care, coordinating diagnostic testing and referrals, patient education, medication management, and supporting continuity of care for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. This position is clinic-based and does not include surgical first assist responsibilities. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Promotes and maintains patient health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.
  • Contributes to a physician’s efficiency by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues.
  • Recommends options and courses of action for patient care.
  • Implements physician directives.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients and performing physical examination including obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and laboratory studies and interpreting test results.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by providing normal growth and development information and providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living.
  • Provides community of care by developing and implementing patient-management plans.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; and enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experimental growth opportunities
  •  Participates in team collaboration and contributes positively to patient experience and clinic operations. .

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSE: 

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Florida. BLS and/or ACLS required in specific areas. For Nurse Practitioners, certification Current Physician Assistant license to practice in the State of Florida required. NCCPA certification required. BLS certification required. DEA license preferred or required within a specified timeframe following hire.  by the ANCC or AANP is required and for Physician Assistants, NCCPA certification is required.


EDUCATION:

Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP (Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) approved Physician Assistant program. NCCPA certification required. Must be licensed/certified or eligible to practice as a PA in the State of Florida. 


EXPERIENCE:

 Previous experience in pain management, orthopaedics, spine, neurology, or related specialty preferred but not required. 


SKILLS:

  • Comfortable working in fast paced environment.
  • Proven work experience as a physician assistant or nurse
  • Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recovery
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how
  • Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task
  • Caring and compassionate
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Dedication to patient care

  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Possess the ability to fulfill any office activities normally expected in an office setting, to include, but not limited to: remaining seated for periods of time to perform computer based work, participating in filing activity, lifting and carrying office supplies (paper reams, mail, etc.)
  • The position walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves continually during working hours.
  • Frequently lift and/or move over 50 pounds.
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
  • Travel may be required to existing or new TOI locations
