The Orenda Center of Wellness
Buckystown, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 10/24/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/23/2026

The Orenda Center of Wellness is seeking a compassionate, skilled Co-Occurring Counselor to join our Men’s Inpatient Services team in Buckeystown, Maryland. This position provides integrated treatment for adult men experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions within a residential treatment setting serving up to 32 clients.

We are looking for a clinician who builds strong therapeutic relationships, brings sound clinical judgment to complex needs, and values collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. You will work alongside clinical, nursing, medical, case management, and direct care professionals to help clients develop the skills and stability needed for lasting recovery.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling addressing substance use, mental health symptoms, trauma, coping skills, and relapse prevention.
  • Complete clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans that reflect each client’s needs, strengths, and recovery goals.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of 8 to 12 clients, assess progress, and adjust interventions in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Use evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral strategies, and trauma-informed care.
  • Identify changes in client functioning, respond to clinical concerns, and coordinate appropriate support and safety interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Collaborate on discharge planning, aftercare referrals, and continuity of care.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, weekly clinical supervision, and professional development.
  • Report directly to the Clinical Manager and maintain professional, ethical, and confidential clinical practices.

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related clinical field.
  • An active Maryland graduate-level or independent clinical license is required, such as LGPC, LMSW, LCPC, or LCSW-C, appropriate to the services provided. Graduate-level clinicians must practice under the required supervision.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and integrated treatment.
  • Strong assessment, counseling, documentation, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain therapeutic boundaries and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience treating adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience in residential, inpatient, or other structured behavioral health treatment settings.
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria, collaborative treatment planning, and electronic medical records.

Clinical Support and Professional Growth

Weekly clinical supervision is included as part of the employment offer. Orenda supports ongoing clinical development through case consultation, treatment guidance, and collaboration with an experienced team. For graduate-level clinicians, supervision toward independent licensure will be coordinated according to the applicable Maryland board requirements.

This full-time opportunity offers competitive compensation, access to Orenda’s employee benefits package, and meaningful work supporting men as they build a foundation for recovery.

To apply, submit your résumé and include your current Maryland license type and status. Please highlight your experience with co-occurring disorders, individual and group therapy, and residential treatment.
