Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Licensed Optician to join our healthcare team. As a Licensed Optician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with their vision needs, dispensing spectacles and contact lenses, and ensuring compliance with health regulation policies. Duties
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by providing expert advice on frames, lenses, and lens coatings based on individual needs and preferences.
- Dispense spectacles and contact lenses accurately, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and comfort for each patient.
- Conduct basic eye assessments, including measuring visual acuity, pupillary distance, and vital signs as required for eyewear fitting.
- Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting, edging, and mounting while maintaining quality standards.
- Maintain detailed medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR systems while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient inquiries, explaining treatment options, and promoting retail sales of eyewear products.
- Ensure compliance with all health regulation policies, HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy, and state healthcare regulations.
- Perform eyewear frame adjustments, repairs, and cleaning to ensure optimal fit and appearance.
- Manage POS systems for sales transactions accurately while maintaining inventory control of optical supplies and retail products.
- Support clinic operations by assisting with medical billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services when necessary.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Licensed Optician with current certification demonstrating compliance with state healthcare regulations.
- Proven experience in optical retail or clinical settings with knowledge of optics, ophthalmology principles, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with laboratory experience including spectacle lens dispensing and eyewear fittings.
- Strong understanding of medical records management, EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies governing eye care practices.
- Experience with retail sales techniques, POS systems, and retail math to drive sales performance effectively.
- Basic math skills for measurements, prescriptions interpretation, and financial transactions.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to ophthalmology and senior care is advantageous but not mandatory.
