Visiting Fellow - Plant Pathology

The Visiting Fellow will support ongoing research projects focused on diseases affecting small and large fruit crops. This position involves field-, greenhouse-, and laboratory-based research activities, including crop maintenance, treatment applications, sample collection and processing, and data collection, entry, and analysis. The Visiting Fellow will work closely with faculty, staff, and graduate students to advance research objectives and contribute to the successful execution of research programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(90%) Research Support

  • Support ongoing research projects related to fruit crop diseases in field and greenhouse settings.
  • Perform crop maintenance activities, including planting, pruning, irrigation, and general care of research plots and greenhouse-grown plants.
  • Apply research treatments according to established protocols.
  • Collect, process, and organize plant, soil, and disease samples for analysis.
  • Record, enter, manage, and analyze research data using appropriate software and databases.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate research records and preparing reports of findings.
  • Follow all laboratory, greenhouse, and field safety procedures and protocols.

(10%) Graduate Student Support and Professional Development

  • Assist graduate students with field, greenhouse, and laboratory research activities.
  • Participate in research group meetings, seminars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a collaborative research environment and support departmental research initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Plant Pathology, Horticulture, Plant Science, Biology, Agriculture, Crop Science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with agricultural, greenhouse, laboratory, and/or field research activities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect, manage, and analyze research data accurately.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
