A Research Farm Assistant (Farm Coordinator 1) assists with duties in support of agricultural operations and field research on vegetable crops. Assists with layout of research plots, planting, and other tasks to establish field experiments; harvests crops, sorts, counts, and weighs crop samples; takes soil and plant samples and assists with data collection. Other duties may include assisting with preparing soil, planting, and greenhouse operations, seed processing, operation of tractors, mowers and farm machinery; weeding research plots; assists with irrigation installation; assists with field days and tours; assists with maintenance of facilities, farm machinery and grounds; performs other duties as assigned; works intermittent or flexible work schedule according to crop, soil, and weather conditions. Position located at The Ohio State University North Central Agricultural Research Station, Fremont, Ohio.
Intermittent Cycle: May 4, 2026 to September 30, 2026.
60% Assists with layout of research plots, planting, and other tasks to establish field experiments; harvests crops, sorts, counts, and weighs crop samples; takes soil and plant samples and assists with data collection. 40% Other duties may include assisting with preparing soil, planting, and greenhouse operations, seed processing, operation of tractors, mowers and farm machinery; weeding research plots; assists with irrigation installation; assists with field days and tours; assists with maintenance of facilities, farm machinery and grounds.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Additional Information:
This job profile is a Farm Coordinator 1 (T1 level) on the career roadmap. This is a Classified Civil Service position which carries a probationary period of 180 days.
