Scope of Position This position is responsible for coordinating and leading the organ transplant process from time of organ offer to time of transplant.
Position Summary Provides continuous on-call coverage for the transplant center for organ procurement. Receives and records potential donor organ information from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) Contractor and communicates as needed with the host Organ Procurement Organization (OPO). Contacts attending physicians, or fellows, and accurately communicates pertinent information. Contacts the Pre-Transplant Coordinator on call to contact the potential recipient(s). Contacts the Operating Room (OR), Control desk, surgeons, fellows and other staff to coordinate the recipient OR logistics. Mobilizes the procurement team. Secures appropriate transportation for the procurement team. Coordinates all aspects of the donor operation, including travel to, and perfusion of, the deceased donor organs being recovered. Coordinates and communicates with all members of the team to ensure a smooth recipient operation. Ensures that the necessary supplies are available at all times for procurement. Assists with development and review of policies and procedures related to compliance with OPTN and all regulatory requirements. Coordinates educational services with the clinical staff regarding organ procurement policy and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in a biological sciences field or equivalent experience in organ transplantation. 3 years of progressive experience in organ transplantation or related field required or one year of experience as an Organ Recovery Specialist-1 at OSUWMC demonstrating excellent performance of all the basic requirements of the position.
