Position Title: Kitchen Assistant
Job Summary: This position is responsible for assisting in the kitchen before, during and after meals. It includes dishwashing, food preparation assistance, serving meals with the cook and kitchen cleaning.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Help prepare for meal serving, including making and preparing beverages
- Use dishwashing sinks and commercial dishwasher to wash all dishes used in the preparation and serving of the meals; dry and put away all dishes correctly. Must understand and implement correct and safe use of kitchen equipment.
- Assist cook in serving meals from the steam table
- Do both daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned to keep the kitchen clean
- Assist in cleaning, stocking, organizing food in the pantry, walk in cooler and freezer as directed by the cook and/or kitchen manager
- Know, understand and implement food safety and hygiene procedures, including but not limited to: proper use of gloves, hand washing, proper food temperatures and proper food storage (covering/labeling)
- Assist in other kitchen related tasks as necessary, which may include assisting in the dining room
Language Skills:
- The ability to read and comprehend instruction, correspondence and memos in the English language.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must be punctual and reliable, with a good attendance record
- Must have good personal hygiene and dress appropriately and safely
- Must be mature and emotionally stable, using calm and kind tone of voice, remaining calm in difficult or unusual circumstances
- Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently
- Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
- Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethics
- Must work well as a team member with other staff members
- Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Demands:
To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, individuals must be able to meet the physical demands of the job duties. The employee is regularly required to use their hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently will lift, stand, bend and walk, as well as sit, climb, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must be able to lift 30 pounds. The employee must also be able to talk, hear and smell.

Work Environment:
The work environment the employee in this position will encounter while performing the essential functions of the job consists of the entire facility, including the resident rooms. Their main work environment will be the Kitchen, which can be warm at times.
