Director Adjunct Faculty

Starting Date: August 24, 2026

This posting describes two distinct roles with separate employers: an Adjunct Faculty position with Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) and the Director role with The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop. These roles are coordinated within the program but are hired and employed independently by their respective organizations. The Positions

Adjunct Faculty (Santa Barbara City College)

Responsibilities

  • Teach two morning laboratory classes and one weekly evening parent education course (ECEP NC010 & NC011)
  • Implement curriculum focused on early childhood education and parent education topics

Hours and Compensation

This is a part-time adjunct faculty role employed by SBCC. Compensation is based on the SBCC School of Extended Learning salary schedule and varies based on qualifications and experience. This role follows the SBCC academic calendar.

Director (The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Executive Director of the nonprofit organization and work in partnership with the parent governing Board
  • Oversee daily operations of the program, including enrollment, staffing, compliance, and overall program management
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate early childhood environment
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, parents/guardians, and children
  • Support and guide parent participation within the cooperative model
  • Coordinate staff meetings, professional development, and community events
  • Maintain relationships with Community Care Licensing, SBCC, and the broader ECE community
  • Provide leadership that reflects and advances the mission and values of The Oaks
  • This role requires both leadership and hands-on involvement in a cooperative, parent-participation environment

Hours & Compensation
This is a full-time, year-round position employed by The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop. Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in child development, early childhood education, human development, family and consumer studies (with a specialization in child development or early childhood education), educational psychology (with a specialization in child development), elementary education, psychology, or family life studies
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in early childhood education or parent education
  • Must meet licensing requirements for an early childhood education program in the State of California

The following Community Care Licensing (CCL) requirements must be completed prior to employment:

  • TB clearance and current immunizations (physician’s report required)
  • Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification
  • Criminal background clearance
  • Mandated Reporter training certification
  • Pest Management in Child Care Centers certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Site Supervisor Permit or Program Director Permit
  • Experience working with parents/guardians and preschool-age children in a parent-child cooperative environment
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and appropriate behavioral guidance strategies
  • Experience with childcare licensing requirements and compliance procedures
  • Ability to develop and support educational programming for adults, and to work effectively with a parent board
  • Experience with or interest in nonprofit operations, including fundraising and governance
  • Physical stamina to participate in a dynamic, hands-on early childhood environment
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and comfort with basic business operations and technology
  • Proven ability to work with children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and ability backgrounds
  • Comfort supporting parents/guardians in the care of program animals
  • Experience with outdoor classroom practices, including gardening and nature-based learning environments

The Oaks Parent-Child Workshop (Executive Director role):

  • Ten (10) days of sick leave per academic year (August–June)

Santa Barbara City College (Adjunct Faculty role):

  • Additional benefits as provided to part-time adjunct faculty through SBCC
  • Includes up to 5 hours of paid professional development per semester
