We are seeking a passionate and energetic Elementary Classroom Teacher for upper grades, specifically working with students in grades 3 through 6 in a multi-age & grade small group setting. Oakland School is a small, private non-profit school specializing in closing learning gaps for students who have not made expected progress and/or who learn differently. This role offers an exciting opportunity to inspire young learners, foster their academic growth, and support their social-emotional development within a project-based, hands-on environment . The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and a strong commitment to educational excellence, ensuring each student reaches their full potential through engaging lessons and personalized support.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards across subjects such as literacy education, math, science, and social studies.
- Create an inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes positive behavior management and encourages active participation from all students.
- Utilize learning technology tools to enhance instruction and facilitate differentiated learning tailored to individual student needs.
- Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative evaluations, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly. Write quarterly Progress Reports for parents.
- Collaborate with colleagues, leaders, and families on a regular basis.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students, fostering their social skills and emotional well-being.
- Participate in regular professional learning opportunities.
- Virginia Teaching License (required); Special Education License (preferred)
- Proven classroom experience working with children in grades 3-6, demonstrating effective classroom management skills.
- Strong communication skills to engage students, collaborate with colleagues, and communicate with parents effectively.
- Knowledge of literacy education, math instruction, and the ability to integrate subject areas to provide a multi-sensory approach to learning and investigation.
- Experience working with students who have not been successful in a traditional learning environment.
- Demonstrate skills in adapting lessons and fostering positive behavior management.
