Position Overview:
The O'Neill Group is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Civil Site Superintendent / Project Manager (with GPS Survey Expertise) to lead site preparation and utility installation across our ground up wood frame multi-unit construction projects. This role blends field-level supervision with project oversight, ensuring all grading, excavation, debris removal, and utility installation are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. The ideal candidate will have both hands-on expertise and management experience, with proven proficiency in blueprint/plan reading, construction technology, and GPS survey equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee site preparation activities: clearing, grading, excavation, cut-and-fill, and debris removal.
- Coordinate trenching, pipe laying, and backfilling for water, sewer, storm drainage, and other underground utilities.
- Supervise field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and productivity standards.
- Review and interpret blueprints, civil/site drawings, and construction plans to ensure accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Utilize construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or equivalent) to track schedules, documentation, and reporting.
- Employ GPS survey and machine control equipment for grade checks, elevations, and site layout verification.
- Allocate manpower, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and meet deadlines.
- Troubleshoot field issues and provide practical, timely solutions to maintain workflow.
- Operate or support heavy equipment (excavators, bulldozers, loaders, compactors) when required.
- Enforce OSHA and company safety standards, conducting toolbox talks and ensuring a safe job site.
- Maintain detailed daily reports of labor, equipment, and material usage.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and inspectors to ensure consistent alignment with project goals.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in sitework, excavation, and utility installation.
- Strong working knowledge of earthwork, grading, and underground utility operations.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil drawings, and construction specifications.
- Proficiency with construction management software for scheduling, plan review, and reporting.
- Demonstrated expertise with GPS survey and machine control equipment for layout, grade checking, and site verification.
- Leadership experience supervising crews and subcontractors.
- Hands-on familiarity with heavy equipment operation.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
