The Sub Food Service Worker in the School Division plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of school cafeterias by ensuring that nutritious meals are prepared and served efficiently to students and staff. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe food service environment while adhering to all health and safety regulations. The role requires flexibility to work in various school locations as a substitute, stepping in to support regular food service staff during absences or peak periods. The Sub Food Service Worker contributes to creating a positive dining experience that promotes healthy eating habits among students. Ultimately, this position supports the overall mission of the school division by helping to provide quality food services that enhance student well-being and academic success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. 
  • Able to supply required back round clearances such as Criminal, Federal and Child Abuse.

Preferred Qualification

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with students and staff.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including mornings and afternoons.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals according to established menus and portion sizes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, slicers, and dishwashers.
  • Stock and replenish food and supplies as needed throughout the day.
  • Follow all food handling and safety procedures to prevent contamination and ensure food quality.
  • Support cafeteria staff by performing various tasks such as dishwashing, cleaning, preparing and serving food.
  • Adapt quickly to different school environments and schedules as a substitute worker.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and supervisors to ensure smooth food service operations.
