San Mateo, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 12/26/2025 CLOSED ON 2/25/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Economics Teacher position at THE NUEVA SCHOOL?

Upper School - Economics Teacher

We are seeking an experienced high school economics teacher to join our faculty in a full-time temporary position beginning in February 2026 and continuing through May 15 2026. The ideal candidate will bring both breadth and depth in their mathematical interests and experiences. They will bring enthusiasm for teaching across our integrated core program while also contributing areas of personal expertise or interest in advanced topics. Candidates will be excited to participate in curriculum development, research effective instructional design, and test and iterate effective assessment models. Candidates should also have experience incorporating effective feedback for students into their teaching practice.

We are looking for a teacher able to teach three courses in our economics program; Macroeconomics, Economic Inequality, and Economic Thesis Seminar. As we are a school serving gifted learners committed to an expansive electives program, these electives offerings resemble undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. Macroeconomics is taught primarily through the lens of the IS-LM model used in courses such as 100-level Macroeconomics courses in the UCs. Economic Inequality primarily grapples with Piketty’s Capital in the 21st Century, urban economic theory, and statistical tools for quantifying distributive macroeconomic outcomes. Economic Thesis Seminar is our highest level economics elective in which experienced students develop quantitative research in small teams with the intent of changing the field of economics for the better. Ideal candidates will bring expertise relevant to one or more of those classes. In addition to content expertise, the ideal candidate will be highly skilled at differentiated instruction and experienced with a variety of teaching approaches.

The candidate will either have taught several years at the high school and/or university level or worked in a professional capacity that had significant overlap with the specific economic curriculum. As we continue to systematize our Upper School program, we seek dedicated educators who have an interest in collaborating with our current faculty as partners in the ongoing design and implementation of Nueva’s curriculum and programs.

We are seeking applicants who represent the full diversity of our community in the Bay Area. Our ideal candidate will possess a deep appreciation for the diverse socioeconomic, racial, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, academic, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. In joining our team at Nueva, you will become a part of an inclusive, iterative and equity-minded community that recognizes that equity and social justice is a lens with which we examine all aspects of our school community in order to ensure an educational experience where all students and colleagues can thrive.
