Position Summary

The Nueva School is seeking passionate, collaborative, and student-centered coaches to lead our Middle School Coed Flag Football program for the Fall 2026 season. We are hiring one Head Coach and one Assistant Coach to support our Junior Varsity (Grades 4–6) and Varsity (Grades 7–8) teams.

The Head Coach and Assistant Coach work together to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging athletic experience that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Coaches serve as positive role models who foster confidence, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for athletics while supporting The Nueva School's mission and values.

The Fall Flag Football season runs August 19 – October 9, 2026.

A Day in the Life

As a Flag Football Coach at Nueva, you'll spend your afternoons helping student-athletes build confidence, improve their athletic skills, and experience the joy of teamwork and competition. Practices are energetic and engaging, balancing skill development with strategy and fun. You'll collaborate closely with fellow coaches, communicate with families and the Athletics Department, and mentor students both on and off the field.

Whether leading drills, coaching from the sidelines during games, or celebrating individual and team successes, you'll play an important role in creating a positive and memorable athletic experience for every student.

 

Primary Responsibilities 

General Coaching Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Coach student-athletes individually and in groups on flag football fundamentals, techniques, rules, and strategies.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect among student-athletes.
  • Evaluate individual and team performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop game strategies appropriate to the team's age and ability level.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and follow school procedures for injuries and emergencies.
  • Model professionalism and positive behavior with students, families, officials, and colleagues.
  • Promote an inclusive environment where every student feels welcomed, supported, and challenged.
  • Adhere to all school, league, and athletic department policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities – Head Coach

  • Provide leadership for all aspects of the Flag Football program.
  • Coordinate practices, game plans, and season objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor the Assistant Coach.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with families and the Athletics Department.
  • Manage equipment, uniforms, and program logistics.

Additional Responsibilities – Assistant Coach

  • Assist with practices, games, and player development.
  • Support game preparation, equipment management, and team logistics.
  • Reinforce coaching instruction and provide individual support to student-athletes.
  • Assist with supervision before, during, and after practices and games.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of flag football rules, strategies, and player development.
  • Previous experience coaching or participating in football or flag football at the high school, collegiate, semi-professional, or professional level, or equivalent experience working with youth athletics.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school administrators.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered team environment.
  • Ability to work afternoon and early evening practices and games throughout the fall season.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience at the middle or high school level.
  • Experience working with gifted learners or school-aged children.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience promoting positive character development through athletics.
  • Knowledge of best practices in youth coaching and athlete safety.

Compensation and Benefits

The part-time hourly rate for this position is $26.00- $65.00 per hour. The starting salary is based on, but not limited to, several factors, including type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.

 

Additional driving stipend available. Nueva pays $100.00 per trip, with a maximum of $100.00 per day. School vans are provided.

 

As a seasonal, part-time position, this role is not eligible for Nueva's employee benefits package.
