Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate person to join our dynamic team in Eastern Upper Peninsula Michigan. In this vital role, you will will provide community, school, home, and street-based outreach services to youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or runaway situations.

This is a hybrid position requiring initial training, case management training and job shadowing at the designated regional offices located in Newberry and Alpena, Michigan. Upon successful completion of training and supervisor approval, the employee will transition to a home-based work model while continuing required fieldwork throughout Chippewa County and surrounding Eastern Upper Peninsula counties.

Residence in or near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan is preferred.

Duties

  • Develop positive working relationships with community partners and external agencies that serve the homeless population to promote the best possible service to youth
  • Provide crisis intervention, information and referrals services to runaway and home youth and youth at risk of homelessness.
  • Provide case management services to run-away and homeless youth and youth at risk of homelessness
  • Educate homeless youth about independent living skills
  • Provide community education services on youth issues, including but not limited to homelessness issues, bullying and advocacy
  • Promote smooth coordination of services and clear communication patterns
  • Participate actively in supervisory meetings, staff meetings, conferences and workshops designed to enhance skills and communicate information
  • Maintain complete files in accordance with Agency, DHHS and state and federal policy requirements
  • Keep files current and up to date through uploading documentation into HMIS timely
  • Respect the confidentiality rights of clients by maintaining locked files and keeping all confidential information locked up
  • Contribute to overall quality assurance program and practices to maintain compliance with state and federal standards
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be knowledgeable of external community resources
  • Participate in department and agency outreach and fundraising events
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor which fall within the parameters of the described role.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field (Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling, or related field); OR
  • Associate’s Degree in a Human Services field plus a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in youth services, child welfare, homelessness services, behavioral health, or related field; OR
  • High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in the human services field.

Additional Requirements:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained every 2 years
  • Clean criminal and Central Registry histories
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel extensively within assigned counties
  • Ability to maintain a secure, private, and confidential home workspace with reliable internet
  • Experience working with children/adolescents and families preferred
  • Strong expertise in crisis intervention and crisis management strategies preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clients, families, community partners, and team members

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
