Entry Level Criminal Defense AssociateAt The Nieves Law Firm, APC, we believe in creating trusting relationships with clients. Driven by integrity and an unrelenting commitment to success, our mission is to deliver superior results by combining bold strategies, careful preparation, and transparent communication.  We are seeking a full-time Entry Level Associate Attorney with experience in a private criminal defense setting or a Public Defender's office.Candidates with courtroom experience are preferred, but we are willing to coach hardworking and committed team members. Candidates must be high-energy and willing to hit the ground running.The right candidates will be able to manage their time and cases effectively. This is a fast-paced position, but it is ideal for someone who is still committed to providing quality service to every client in the firm at all times, no matter the pace. We are seeking candidates who work hard to produce excellent results.Strong oral and written advocacy skills are required.Candidates with second language skills are encouraged to apply.Compensation and benefits include base salary plus contributions to health/dental/vision plans, 401(k), mileage reimbursement, use of company car, bar dues, malpractice insurance, parking, student loan assistance, and other bonuses and benefits. Admission to the California Bar and the capacity to attend court in the Bay Area are a MUST for this position. Applicants who possess a second language skill are especially encouraged to apply. Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 yearly, depending on experience and criminal defense experience.Compensation:$85,000 - $95,000 yearly, depending on experienceResponsibilities:Maintain confidentiality and objectivity Prepare for hearings in advance, research potential issues, guide the clients clearly, and provide strategic adviceAdvocate for and secure the best possible outcome for clientsBe familiar with and apply post-conviction remediesStay up to date on changes in the lawProperly advise clients on the direct and collateral consequences of their caseDraft and submit motions and other filings on time - meeting internal and external deadlinesArrive at work and court on time in professional and appropriate attireMaintain a good rapport with clients and treat them with respectParticipate in ongoing training as required by the FirmParticipate in networking and community events as required by the Firm Accurately and concurrently bill time Qualifications:Have practical experience from law school internships, clinics, or volunteer work in a criminal law setting.High energy and eagerness to learnStrong research and writing skillsMust be prepared and punctualExcellent time management skillsCommitted to providing high-quality client servicePossess a J.D. and be in good standing with the State Bar of CAWillingness to travel throughout Alameda County and the surrounding Bay AreaAbout CompanyAt The Nieves Law Firm, we take the criminal out of criminal defense.
