Skills Trainer – Multiple Programs

Programs:

  • Kelly Avenue School (KAS)
  • Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment (IIBHT)

We are currently hiring Skills Trainers for two different programs. While the Skills Trainer role shares many core responsibilities across both programs, the day-to-day work and setting will vary.

Kelly Avenue School (KAS)

The Skills Trainer helps youth by creating a safe space, and supporting them as they work through different life experiences. This position helps the youth transition into different parts of their day, deescalate behaviors, and redirect distracting behaviors to create a response appropriate for their environment. They motivate, coach, and inspire the youth to be their best selves.

Worksite Location: The Dalles

Work Schedule: Full-Time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Wage Range: $23.39 - $26.31 per hour

Reports to: Kelly Avenue School Program Supervisor

Intensive In-Home Behavioral Health Treatment (IIBHT)

The IIBHT Skills Trainer provides therapeutic skills training and other support for children who are struggling with mental and behavioral health issues. This position works closely with Mental Health Therapists and Teachers as part of a treatment team.

Worksite Location: The Dalles

Work Schedule: Full-Time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Wage Range: $23.39 - $26.31 per hour

Bilingual Differential Pay: $0.50 per hour worked

Reports to: IIBHT Program Supervisor

Who are we looking for?

The Skills Trainer helps youth by creating a safe space and supporting them as they work through different life experiences. Depending on the program, the Skills Trainer may work with youth in a school, home, and/or community setting to provide skill development, behavioral support, academic support, life skills instruction, and opportunities for social, emotional, recreational, and community activities.

What you will do…

  • Instruct, supervise, and participate with youth in daily skill training, personal development, education, social and emotional skill training, work, recreational, and community activities.
  • Work one-on-one with program participants and their family members to provide life skills instruction in home, school, and/or community settings, depending on the program.
  • Teach youth social and emotional skills and create opportunities for recreation and fun.
  • Work collaboratively with program managers, case management teams, Mental Health Therapists, Teachers, and other staff to understand individualized service plan objectives and support service delivery plans.
  • Assure that the physical safety needs of youth are met and that program participants and the environment are safe.
  • Give practical advice and guidance to youth within program guidelines.
  • Identify and anticipate potential behavioral problems and resolve conflicts using collaborative problem solving and non-violent communication.
  • Help youth understand rules and follow policies and procedures.
  • Sit with youth and talk to them to seek understanding and provide support and guidance.
  • Identify and anticipate possible behavioral issues and proactively address them.
  • Assist in crisis intervention.
  • Work with youth to instruct them in live-taught classes.
  • Help with academic work and tutor youth in the classroom.
  • Create and monitor weekly academic and behavior goals with youth individually.
  • Participate with youth in activities that support education, social and emotional skill development, work, recreation, and community involvement. Activities may include outdoor activities, art/craft projects, board games, food planning and preparation, visiting libraries and stores, and other “real-life” activities.
  • Document activities and behavioral observations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare incident reports and other documentation as required.
  • Assist other staff with providing and documenting skill development activities.
  • Work with community partners to develop service delivery plans.
  • Engage with youth and families, build trust, and use a strengths-based approach.
  • Project a professional image through in-person, video, and phone interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Requirements…

Required:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

OR:

  • A combination of formal education (high school diploma and/or GED) and at least 1 year

of experience with youth exhibiting problematic behavior

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background check
