Role Description The Girls Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach is a part-time, on-site role based in Boston, MA. The coach supports the Head Coach in planning and running practices, developing game strategies, and fostering a positive, inclusive team culture. Daily responsibilities include assisting with drills and skill development, supervising student-athletes before, during, and after practices and games, and reinforcing expectations for sportsmanship and academic responsibility. The coach helps manage equipment and logistics, communicates effectively with students, families, and school staff, and adheres to school policies and league regulations. The role also involves mentoring student-athletes, promoting safety, and supporting the overall mission and values of The Newman School.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of soccer fundamentals, rules, and strategies, ideally with prior playing or coaching experience at the high school or club level.
- Ability to design and implement age-appropriate training sessions focused on skill development, conditioning, and teamwork.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support a diverse group of student-athletes.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful team environment aligned with the school’s values and expectations.
- Understanding of basic injury prevention, safety practices, and willingness to follow school and league health guidelines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the Head Coach, athletic department staff, and other educators.
- Reliable availability for after-school practices, games, and occasional meetings; punctuality and strong organizational skills.
- Previous experience working with adolescents in an educational or athletic setting is preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it, and completion of any required coaching or safeguarding training.
