Overview
The Jerome Robbins Dance Division is the world’s largest library and archive of dance material. The Librarian II will be a core part of the Division’s reference staff, serving on public desks and providing reference via email and phone. They will work to make a broad community feel welcome at the Library by providing friendly and expert reference. Reporting to the Division’s supervising librarian, they will also work on an array of projects, including public photo orders and collection management. They will also be responsible for one of the Division’s fellows each year as part of the Division’s annual fellowship program. The person in this role is passionate about dance history and will actively work to engage the broadest audience possible with extraordinary resources.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the JRDD’s Librarian III, the Librarian II will:
- Provide specialized subject reference services using print and electronic resources at multiple service points.
- Conduct excellent reference through email and phone interactions with patrons
- Undertake collection development of JRDD’s general research materials, ensuring resources are representative of our entire community
- Engage in collection management of general research materials by assessing condition and replacement needs
- Increase collection visibility and accessibility through library research guides
- Assist in the assessment and processing of library materials for photo orders
- Assist in statistics tracking of reference interactions and checkouts of general collections materials
- Provide project oversight and supervision to staff and volunteers, ensuring all tasks are handled efficiently.
- Perform related duties as required.
Required Education & Certifications
- ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies
- Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York
- Experience with library public service
- Experience in an archival setting
- Experience working in and/or with the dance community
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with various library and archival tools, including ArchivesSpace, ILS, Aeon, Drupal, metadata management systems, and Google Suite
